Meng Series / White Pig

12 Years of Closed-Herd Selection — No Imports

Since importing from Canada in 2013–2014, BGG has not brought in live pigs from overseas for 12 consecutive years. Through continuous high-intensity genomic selection, the Meng Series now comprises four specialised lines with performance benchmarked against leading North American, French and Danish genetics.

All genetics are data-driven. BGG can match customers with the right line based on target traits — litter size, growth rate, FCR, or eating quality.

Native Genetics / China's Heritage Pig Crisis

A Genetic Extinction Crisis Unfolding in Real Time

China is home to 88 indigenous pig breeds, 58 of them listed for national genetic-resource protection — yet over 95% of the commercial pork market is supplied by exotic white pig lines, making conservation breeding increasingly urgent.

Why BGG Breeds Black Pigs

🛡

Heritage Conservation

Preserving Native Genetics

China's indigenous pig breeds are disappearing at an accelerating rate. BGG believes that the loss of every native breed is an irreversible genetic setback — and the foundation of our black pig programme is safeguarding that heritage.

🍖

Flavour First

Flavour First

Black pig breeding follows a fundamentally different logic from commercial white pigs. IMF is the soul of eating quality and must take precedence over growth traits. Our goal is to restore the flavour profile that defined Chinese pork for generations.

🔬

Science Meets Heritage

Modern Science Serving Tradition

Heritage pig breeding is far more complex and time-consuming than commercial white pig programmes. BGG has applied genomic selection over 14 years to accelerate genetic gain while preserving the flavour and breed characteristics that define the line.

Breed Origin

The Origin of the BGG Black Pig

Source Institution

A medical research institute affiliated with a PLA Jinan Military Region hospital, which collected premium black pigs from across China over 10 years starting in 2002

Original Purpose

High-quality pork for elite personnel including pilots and athletes

Genetic Composition

Drawing on premier native pig genetic resources from across China, integrated with native pig bloodlines

Current Status

5 bloodlines · 10 blood families · breed certification in progress

Three Breeding Objectives

01

Phenotype Uniformity

Phenotypic Uniformity

Consistent conformation and appearance is a prerequisite for commercial-scale production. Through precision mating and maintenance of 5 stable bloodlines, every batch of BGG black pigs meets uniform quality standards.

02

Flavour · Intramuscular Fat ★ Primary Objective

Flavour · IMF

IMF is the most critical determinant of eating quality and BGG's primary selection objective for the black pig line. Combined with the third-party verified 'Two High, One Low' meat quality standard — high protein, high linolenic acid, low cholesterol — we are restoring the flavour profile that defines premium Chinese pork.

03

Growth Performance

Growth Performance

Without compromising flavour, BGG progressively improves growth rate and FCR to reduce production costs and ensure that heritage pig farming remains economically viable for breeders — sustaining the long-term conservation programme.
